Approaching Christ

Those who approach the Lord in a human way fail to recognize Him. They either condemn Him to the ignominious wood of the Cross, or they distort Him with heresies, trying to know Him according to the flesh. “Though once we knew Christ according to the flesh, we know Him thus no longer” (2 Cor 5:16). Now we know everything in a different way, according to the Spirit, who “loosens bonds and cools the flame.” We experience everything in the Risen Christ. Now we have the Church, the new creation: a different reality—Godmanhood.

On the other hand, the events of salvation are so enormous that one can see them clearly only from a distance. The Prophets experience them and describe them before they happen. The Apostles and the Fathers come to know them after Pentecost, through the Holy Spirit, and communicate them to us.
